Here we will give a brief definition of Christianity and what it means to be a Christian.

Christianity is a set of beliefs, a way of life, and a community of people which knows no boundaries and transcends race, political and geographical boundaries.

In terms of beliefs, a way of life and a community, Christians are guided by the life and teachings of Jesus of Nazareth, also known as Christ. ("Christ" is the Greek form of the Hebrew "Messiah", meaning "anointed".)  A simple and common definition of “Christianity" therefore is to group it under the various groups and denominations in which Jesus Christ is the central figure of their beliefs.

Let’s look at the link between God, Jesus Christ and the concept of Trinity.

God

Christians believe in one God, who created the universe and everything it contains.

God is a person, but while humans have both physical and spiritual elements, God does not and his existence is only spiritual - that is, he exists in a sphere outside the normal physical universe of which of course he created.

Humans are created in the image of God as physical beings. We share certain common characteristics with God. Just like God, we are rational beings, capable of making responsible decisions and are capable of relationships with both are fellow men and God himself.

God is a person, who is capable of affecting and being affected by others. This is implicit in the concept of God as Father, which is one of the most important teachings of Jesus. The concept of God as personal, ultimately led to the concept of Trinity.

The world has a genuine existence of its own - but God cares about and interacts with his creation.

Human beings are responsible to God.

As the creator, God is responsible for the world and all that goes on within it. The world is an independent entity from God - but while the two are independent, they are also interrelated at the same time.

Jesus Christ

Christians, believe that Jesus is the Son of God and the Messiah as outlined in the Old Testament.

Jesus Christ is a teacher, the model of a pious life, the revealer of God, the mediator of salvation and the savior of mankind whose sole purpose was to bring about salvation from sin.

Christians maintain that Jesus ascended into heaven and most denominations teach that Jesus will judge both the living and the dead, granting everlasting life to his followers.

The Trinity

The Trinity is often regarded as an essential doctrine of mainstream Christianity.

The commonly accepted understanding of the Holy Trinity, espoused in the Nicene Creed, is God exists in three separate forms:

Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit

They are seen as one being of the same substance.

"Father, Son and Holy Spirit" represents in god in all his forms. God therefore is believed to be infinite and God's presence may be seen through the actions of both Jesus and the Holy Spirit.

Being a Christian What It Means

As a Christian, you accept the major Christian beliefs but the concept is broader, since Christianity is also a way of life and a specific community.

To be a Christian, one is normally expected to accept the major Christian beliefs, to be following the teachings of Jesus taught, and as a consequence be a part of the Christian community.

Christianity Today

Christianity is one of the world's major religions.

Today, there are around 2 billion Christian’s worldwide representing around a quarter of the worlds population and while Christianity has evolved and changed over the centuries it still is the guiding light in a huge number of people worldwide, giving them a sense of purpose and belonging which helps enrich their lives.
